STAFFORD, Texas — Dr. Matthews visited a Dairy Queen in Stafford after a customer alleged that a screw inside his burger punctured his gums and sent him to an emergency room.

Michael Solomon said he purchased a Hunger-Buster through the restaurant’s drive-thru on Aug. 27. Solomon said he discovered the screw while eating the burger with his family.

Solomon said emergency room staff found that the screw punctured a hole in his gums. He said he received a tetanus shot and additional treatment to prevent an infection.

A written statement provided by Solomon said the incident was documented on video and reported to the restaurant’s manager. An incident report was also filed.

During the visit, Dr. Matthews showed a manager photographs and documents related to the allegation and asked how the screw entered the burger. She also asked what measures would be implemented to prevent a similar incident.

The manager declined to discuss the allegation in detail, saying the company’s human resources department would handle the matter. The manager said an incident like this had never happened at the location and that the company would follow up.

Dr. Matthews then stood outside the restaurant and warned arriving customers about Solomon’s allegation. She said she plans to pursue the matter further.

The Dairy Queen is located near Kirkwood Road and Dulles Avenue. Quanell X was initially expected to attend but was unable to make the visit.
