A man in his early 20s was shot in the back during a confrontation with his girlfriend’s family at an apartment in the 3800 block of West Fuqua Road last night.
Houston police said officers responded to the shooting around 10:30 p.m. The man had arrived to speak with his girlfriend, who lived at the apartment with her father, brother and a baby.
The couple began arguing before the girlfriend’s father and brother stepped onto the porch with the boyfriend. The boyfriend and the woman’s brother then became involved in a physical altercation.
As the father and son attempted to return inside, the boyfriend appeared to walk away before turning around and allegedly saying, “I got something for you.” The family told police the boyfriend carried a pistol from time to time.
Police said the father fired once before retreating into the apartment with his son and closing the door. The boyfriend then began kicking out a window beside the door, prompting the father to fire a second shot through the broken glass.
The boyfriend was struck once in the back with a small-caliber bullet. Houston Fire Department personnel transported him to a hospital, where he is expected to recover.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been announced.
