Dr. Matthews uses total loss to highlight importance of gap insurance and credit preparation

HOUSTON, TX – Following a recent crash involving her 2025 Cadillac Escalade, community advocate Dr. Candice Matthews is turning the incident into a public lesson on financial literacy and preparing for major vehicle purchases.

Dr. Matthews explained that although the luxury vehicle was a total loss, her previous financial planning protected her from significant out-of-pocket costs and she was able to get a 2026 Cadillac Escalade from Bayway Cadillac with help from Noah Francis (IG: @noahknowcars)

“Because I had a 2025 Escalade and wrecked it and everything by accident, whatever. But I had gap insurance. I had everything in place, and my credit was on point,” Dr. Matthews said.

Gap insurance generally covers the difference between a vehicle’s value and the remaining balance on its loan or lease when the vehicle is totaled.

Dr. Matthews encouraged consumers to improve their credit and prepare financially before buying a vehicle.

“See, I wake up. Don’t gotta worry about no money. You should do the same,” she said.
