Video: Man in critical condition after walking with a friend in southeast Houston

HOUSTON, May 13, 2023 – A shooting incident took place in the early hours of this morning at the 5900 block of Brock in southeast Houston, according to Houston Police Department (HPD) Lieutenant Willkens.

Speaking at a press conference, Lt. Willkens detailed the grim scene. “We have one male, 21 years old, that’s been shot numerous times in his limbs and torso,” he stated. The incident reportedly took place on a dark bridge that runs across the bayou.

The victim was found by police after asking for help from a resident at a nearby home. He revealed to the resident that he was with his friend at the time of the shooting. Witnesses reported seeing a figure in all black fleeing the scene in the opposite direction following the gunshots.

“We launched a manhunt immediately, deploying a helicopter and K-9 units on the ground, but we haven’t located any suspects yet,” Lt. Willkens revealed.

The victim, is currently undergoing surgery and is expected to survive his injuries.

“He was shot numerous times, so he’s very lucky,” Lt. Willkens commented, expressing a mix of relief and concern.

HPD is awaiting further information from the victim post-surgery to help identify the shooter. “Once he gets out of surgery, we should be able to find out possibly who our suspect is,” Lt. Willkens said.

The investigation is ongoing, with HPD urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The identity of the suspect remains unknown at this time.
