Suspect shot with own gun during a struggle with Houston Police Officer

On the morning of June 3, 2023, in the 10700 block of Eastex Freeway, Houston, an officer was alerted to a potentially stolen black vehicle by someone in a red vehicle. As the officer approached the vehicle in question, a single-vehicle accident occurred.

The driver of the suspected stolen vehicle then exited and fled on foot into a nearby parking lot, located on the southwest corner of Highway 59 and Little York. The officer chased the suspect, and upon catching up to him, attempted to make an arrest.

During this encounter, the suspect produced a pistol. Despite receiving verbal commands from the officer, the suspect did not comply. In the ensuing struggle, the suspect’s weapon discharged multiple times, resulting in him being shot in the arm and the wrist.

Following the sound of gunshots, a security officer approached the scene and instructed the suspect to show his hands. At this point, the suspect complied, leading to his successful arrest.

The suspect, a 33-year-old male, was then transported to a local hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition. It was later found that the vehicle in question was not listed as stolen but police say it is still early in the investigation. Charges against the suspect are currently pending.
