According to Cause No. 1918144 filed in Harris County District Court, Carltonio Jackson was taken into custody on May 30, 2025, for the May 23 shooting death of Phillip Ogiemwonyi.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the 3200 block of West Belfort Avenue. According to Houston Police, surveillance video showed Jackson and Ogiemwonyi engaged in a verbal dispute inside the bus. Jackson reportedly pistol-whipped the victim and then shot him once in the chest as the bus came to a stop.

Houston Fire Department medics transported Ogiemwonyi to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 3:08 p.m. A single shell casing was recovered from the scene.

Witnesses on the bus identified Jackson as the shooter. One of them, the bus driver, later picked Jackson out of a photo lineup. Investigators matched Jackson to a prior police report where he had used a Texas ID card—confirming his identity through the surveillance footage.

Jackson is currently being held on a murder charge. Court-ordered bail is pending.
