Illinois State Police seek public’s help in 2023 homicide of Decatur man

DECATUR, IL – The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5 is asking for the public’s assistance in the homicide investigation of 51-year-old James E. Taylor of Decatur.

Taylor was reported missing to the Decatur Police Department on May 12, 2023, and was last seen alive on May 10 around 6 p.m. He was found deceased on May 19, 2023, in a rural area near his home. ISP Special Agents are treating the case as a homicide.

According to ISP Lieutenant Chad Dumonceaux, investigators continue to pursue leads and encourage anyone with information — no matter how minor — to come forward.

Decatur Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,500 for information regarding Taylor’s death.
