Newtown woman extradited from Belize to face over 100 animal cruelty charges in Bucks County

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A woman accused in the largest farm animal cruelty case in Bucks County history has been returned to the United States to face charges.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Abigail Tuttle O’Keeffe was transported from Belize to Philadelphia and turned over to the Newtown Township Police Department around 10:30 p.m. on September 20, 2025.

O’Keeffe was charged in January with more than 100 counts of animal cruelty following an investigation by the Bucks County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She fled the country shortly after charges were filed.

On April 25, O’Keeffe was arrested in Benque Viejo, Belize, for possession of a firearm. The U.S. State Department later informed the U.S. Marshals Service of her detention and coordinated her extradition once her criminal case in Belize was resolved on September 18.

O’Keeffe was then escorted from Belmopan, Belize, by the U.S. Marshals Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force and returned to face prosecution in Bucks County.

The operation involved coordination between the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Philadelphia, U.S. Marshals Office of International Operations, the U.S. Department of State, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, Bucks County Sheriff’s Office, INTERPOL Washington, and Belizean law enforcement.
