9-month-old infant dies in Hollister; police investigate cause, including possible SIDS

HOLLISTER, CA – The Hollister Police Department is investigating the death of a 9-month-old infant who was found unresponsive Thursday morning in a home in the city.

At approximately 7:48 a.m. on September 25, 2025, Hollister Police officers responded to an emergency “echo call” reporting an unconscious infant with no pulse and no signs of breathing. Personnel from the Hollister Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR) also responded.

First responders arrived within minutes and found the infant not breathing and without a pulse. Life-saving measures were initiated immediately and continued during transport to a nearby hospital. Despite those efforts, the child was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Preliminary information indicates the infant had been sleeping on a couch before being discovered by a family member. The Hollister Police Department and San Benito County Sheriff’s Office have launched a joint investigation into the death, with possible causes under review including criminal negligence and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
