Man killed after crashing into median on Alma Street in Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, CA – Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred late Saturday night on Alma Street near the University Avenue overcrossing.

The crash happened on September 28, 2025, at approximately 11:57 p.m. According to the Palo Alto Police Department, officers and Palo Alto Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and found a man in his forties unconscious inside a pickup truck. He was extricated and transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Preliminary findings indicate the pickup was traveling northbound on Alma Street when it left the roadway and struck the elevated median. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.

The Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) team is investigating the cause of the collision. It is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors. The roadway was closed for about three hours during the investigation.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending confirmation from the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
