Deputies address social media post showing Clear Spring High School student with gun

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigated a social media post showing a Clear Spring High School student holding what appeared to be a firearm.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the post included a general threat but was not directed toward the school, students, or staff. The School Resource Officer and additional deputies contacted the student before the start of the school day. It was determined that the photograph in the post had been taken in March 2025.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that appropriate action is being taken in reference to the incident and emphasized its commitment to school safety and its partnership with Washington County Public Schools.

Officials urged the public to continue reporting school safety concerns directly to law enforcement and WCPS, reminding students and parents to “report it, don’t post it” when encountering social media content that could impact school security.
