BATON ROUGE, LA – A 29-year-old man was fatally shot following a fight at a barbershop in the 9700 block of Platt Drive, police said.

According to Baton Rouge Police, the incident occurred on October 15, 2025, at approximately 5:49 p.m. Homicide detectives learned that a dispute broke out between a patron and an employee at the business. The patron, later identified as Sylvester Bouligny III, reportedly left the shop and returned with two other Black males.
The group confronted the employee, and a physical altercation ensued. During the fight, the two accompanying males allegedly opened fire, striking 29-year-old Marvin Tolliver, who police say was not involved in the altercation. Tolliver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Bouligny was arrested on October 16, 2025, and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He is charged with Principal to Second Degree Murder and Illegal Use of Weapons.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to identify and locate the other individuals involved.
