UNION CITY, CA – An attempted kidnapping involving an 11-year-old girl is under investigation after a disturbing encounter near a school Wednesday morning.

According to the Union City Police Department, the girl was riding her scooter to Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School around 8:15 a.m. when an unknown male grabbed the hood of her sweatshirt and tried to pull her. The incident reportedly occurred near the intersection of Dyer Street and Meteor Drive.
The child was able to escape and alert school staff, who immediately notified police. She was not injured.
The suspect is described as a tall, heavy-set male wearing a black hoodie with the hood pulled up and a mask covering his face. He may be linked to a dark-colored sedan.
Officers and investigators are canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance footage.
