Wilmington police arrest man in connection with July fatal shooting

WILMINGTON, DE – Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on July 21 in the 700 block of North Franklin Street.

Officers with the Uniformed Services Division responded to the area around 10:02 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police located a 50-year-old victim, identified as Donnell Seeney, who was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.

Detective Derek Haines of the Criminal Investigations Division led the investigation and identified 31-year-old Nicodemus Morris as a suspect. The case was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury on September 2, resulting in an indictment for Morris.

On October 28, police executed a search warrant in the 500 block of West 24th Street and took Morris into custody without incident.

Morris has been charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,100,000 cash-only bail.
