EUGENE, OR – A Colombian national has been arrested and charged in connection with an organized burglary ring accused of targeting homes of Asian business owners across Oregon and Washington.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon, 34-year-old Derinson Martinez-Grandas is one of seven individuals charged with conspiracy to transmit stolen property. Prosecutors allege that beginning in early October 2025, Martinez-Grandas and his co-conspirators traveled between states, staying in short-term rentals while identifying and surveilling potential victims. The crew allegedly used signal jammers, countersurveillance methods, and coordinated group calls to carry out the burglaries, often entering homes by breaking glass doors.
The group is accused of burglarizing residences in Auburn, Washington, on October 3; Eugene, Oregon, on October 6; and Salem, Oregon, on October 9, stealing cash, jewelry, handbags, travel documents, and other valuables. After the Salem burglary, detectives from the Eugene Police Department began surveillance and obtained a search warrant for a rental property tied to Martinez-Grandas. Investigators recovered stolen property, electronic devices, evidence of money transfers to Colombia, and travel documentation. All seven suspects were detained after fleeing into nearby woods.
Martinez-Grandas made his initial appearance in federal court in Oregon and was ordered detained. Co-conspirator William Estiven Rodriguez-Gaviria, 26, appeared in federal court in Arizona and was also detained pending further proceedings.
The case is being investigated by the FBI and the Eugene Police Department, with assistance from the Salem and Auburn Police Departments. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William M. McLaren in coordination with the Lane County District Attorney’s Office.
