HOUSTON, TX – A suspect charged in the fatal shooting of his cousin at 3534 Russell Street around 2:20 a.m. on October 25 has been taken into custody.
According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to the residence and found 55-year-old Ramon Martinez Linares deceased near the front door. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Police stated that Martinez Linares had been involved in an altercation with another man when the suspect shot him and fled.
Court records identify the suspect as 47-year-old Jose Guadalupe Amaya Martinez, also known as Juan Amaya Martinez. He is charged with murder in the 497th Criminal District Court under Case No. 1938916. According to the complaint, the suspect and the victim were cousins.
Documents state the confrontation escalated after the suspect accused the victim of disrespecting his wife and liking his wife, according to witness statements. The argument continued outside the residence moments before the shooting.
The complaint alleges that Amaya Martinez intentionally and knowingly caused the death of Martinez Linares by shooting him with a firearm. Witness interviews, surveillance video, cartridge casings, and Flock camera data were listed as supporting evidence.
On November 1, members of the Indiana FBI Gang Response Investigative Team arrested Amaya Martinez in Indiana. He is currently held at the Lake County Sheriff’s Detention Center in Gary, Indiana.
