HOUSTON, TX – Houston police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a single vehicle after a young woman was struck and killed while crossing Pierce Street after leaving a club.
According to the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division, the woman was exiting a nearby club when a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed struck her, carrying her a significant distance and crashing into several parked vehicles.
Police said five vehicles were involved in the crash, all of them parked except for the suspect vehicle.
The driver was arrested at the scene and is expected to be charged with intoxicated manslaughter. Police said a passenger was also inside the suspect vehicle at the time of the crash. Investigators believe the driver had been drinking at another bar prior to arriving in the area.
Officers who were already working at the club were able to quickly detain the suspect and secure the scene, preventing further disturbances. The victim has not yet been identified as police work to notify next of kin.
Pierce Street remains closed as investigators collect evidence and review video from the scene. Drivers are urged to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
