TAMPA, FL – A Tampa man has been charged with interstate communication of a threat to injure and kill after allegedly making violent threats toward federal officials and their families.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, 35-year-old Robert Logan Shoecraft III is accused of making threats in both phone messages and online communications. In May 2024, Shoecraft allegedly called the office of a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives and left an expletive-laden voicemail threatening to kill the lawmaker. On October 31, 2025, he allegedly sent a direct message via social media to the wife of a federal official who serves as an advisor to the President of the United States, threatening that she and her husband would be “dragged through the streets like Mussolini.”
If convicted, Shoecraft faces up to five years in federal prison.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Capitol Police, and the United States Secret Service. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lindsey Schmidt and Special Assistant United States Attorney Joseph Wheeler III.
