Woman killed after SUV crashed into parked cars on McGowen Street

HOUSTON, TX – Houston Police are investigating a fatal collision in which a woman was struck and killed after a Mercedes SUV crashed into parked cars on McGowen Street.

According to police, the woman had been walking around a line of parked vehicles on the residential street when the SUV, which was straddling lanes one and two, struck a parked car and pushed it into another. The impact also caused the pedestrian to be struck and thrown beneath a separate parked vehicle. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The driver was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for injuries. An officer is evaluating him for possible alcohol involvement. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and the District Attorney’s Office is assisting with obtaining warrants, including potentially for blood evidence.

Speed is believed to be a factor, with investigators estimating the SUV may have been traveling between 40 and 50 mph. The woman has not yet been identified, and the medical examiner’s office will handle identification.
