Elderly homeowner fatally shot after striking both suspects during home invasion

HOUSTON, TX – An elderly woman was killed just before 2 a.m. during an exchange of gunfire with burglars at a residence.

Houston police say two suspects, a Black male and a Black female wearing masks, entered the home and exchanged gunfire with the homeowner.

Police said the homeowner, a woman in her late 70s, struck both suspects during the gunfight. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Both suspects were transported to area hospitals, where one remains in critical condition and the other is in stable condition.

Police confirmed there were other people inside the home at the time, but none of them exchanged gunfire with the suspects.

The incident is being investigated by the Houston Police Department Homicide Division.
