Man struck and killed while crossing Highway 6 in west Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A man was struck and killed while crossing Highway 6 in west Houston, according to Houston Police.

The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. near the 2200 block of Highway 6. Police said the man was attempting to cross the highway mid-block, outside of a designated crosswalk, when he was hit by a southbound Hyundai.

The male pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. He is believed to be between 40 and 50 years old. Police believe he may have been homeless and living in the area, though his identity has not been confirmed.

The driver of the Hyundai showed no signs of impairment and was evaluated and released on scene by the Houston Fire Department.

According to police, this stretch of Highway 6 is a high-traffic area where pedestrians frequently cross unsafely outside of crosswalks.
