Man killed after being struck by rideshare driver near the Galleria

HOUSTON, TX – A man was killed after being struck by an SUV near the intersection of West Alabama Street and Sage Road near the Galleria.

Police responded around 11:30 p.m. to a reported auto-pedestrian crash involving a Chevrolet SUV and a pedestrian. Investigators said it is unclear whether the crash occurred in the crosswalk or further east along West Alabama.

The pedestrian, described as a man possibly in his mid-60s, was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police said the driver of the Chevrolet SUV, described as a man in his late 50s, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Authorities said field sobriety tests were administered and no signs of impairment were found.

Investigators said the driver was reportedly working in a rideshare capacity and was en route to a call at the time of the crash. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
