HOUSTON, TX – New video from last night’s officer-involved shooting in South Houston that left an officer critically injured and a suspect dead shows the moments as the chase came to an end and gunfire erupted.
Surveillance footage shared by an anonymous viewer captures flashing emergency lights and sirens as officers surround the vehicle in a driveway. Officers can be heard repeatedly giving verbal commands before gunfire erupts, with multiple bursts heard at different points in the video.
Police said this began as an attempted traffic stop that led to a slow-speed chase before ending at the home, where the driver opened fire with a shotgun and shot the officer in the head. Officers returned fire, and officers say the suspect may have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation is ongoing.
