Transient male found in ditch after being shot by homeowner in northeast Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A man was pronounced deceased after a shooting near the Robins Landing subdivision in northeast Houston.

The shooting happened near the 9600 block of Tidwell Road. According to the Houston Police Department, the deceased man appeared to be in his 30s and was found collapsed in a ditch near the roadway.

According to the Houston Police Department, the man who fired the shots is a homeowner who lives inside the nearby subdivision. Police said the original call to the area was for a suspicious person involving the deceased man, who investigators described as a transient individual who had reportedly been entering backyards and homes under construction in the neighborhood.

Police said the homeowner allegedly confronted the man after seeing him in the neighborhood again. Authorities stated the two later encountered each other near Tidwell Road as the man was allegedly attempting to re-enter the subdivision through a wooded area.

According to the Houston Police Department, the confrontation became physical and the homeowner told officers the man attacked him, leading him to pull out a pistol and fire multiple shots. The wounded man reportedly ran from the area before collapsing in a ditch.

Police said the homeowner later flagged down responding officers and told them about the confrontation. Officers then located the man deceased in the ditch.

The Houston Police Department Homicide Division is investigating the shooting. Detectives said the case will be presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether any charges will be filed.
