Houston police shoot suspected stolen vehicle driver after 25-minute standoff on Westheimer

HOUSTON, TX – Houston Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting after a suspect in a reported stolen vehicle was shot following a nearly 25-minute standoff in the 4100 block of Westheimer.

According to Houston police, officers located a vehicle reported stolen out of Fort Bend County and repeatedly ordered the driver to exit. Police say the driver refused to comply, and as officers approached, he made a movement that led them to believe he may have been reaching for or displaying a weapon. Investigators have not confirmed whether the suspect was armed.

Officers opened fire, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Three separate investigations are now underway, and HPD says body camera footage will be released within 30 days.
