According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Ashley Mae Nelson was riding westbound across the highway. Her husband was riding a bicycle directly behind her at the time of the crash. Nelson crossed all lanes of traffic outside of a crosswalk and failed to yield the right of way when she was struck by a red Ford or Toyota sedan traveling northbound in the number one lane. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to find a chaotic scene with approximately 100 individuals in a parking lot, possibly attending a benefit.
