Houston, TX – The Houston Police Department is investigating a serious incident involving a fight and subsequent shooting at Vegas Hookah Bar & Grill located at 11235 Southwest Freeway. The incident occurred in the early hours of July 16, 2023, around 2:20 a.m., leaving one man in his twenties in a critical condition.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers from the 17th district described the situation as highly chaotic, and they have faced significant challenges in gathering information due to the lack of cooperation from the crowd present at the time of the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident started as a brawl among several women inside the bar, resulting in the female waitress who works at the location suffering multiple injuries including scratches and marks on her head.
As the altercation escalated and moved to the parking lot, a group of individuals who were just arriving at the bar were suddenly attacked by the brawling crowd. In response to the unexpected aggression, two men from the group, including the victim now in critical condition, pulled out their firearms. The victim was subsequently shot in the back. He was immediately rushed to a local area hospital by the Houston Fire Department.
Currently, the only information available about the shooter is that he is male. As the investigation is ongoing, the Houston Police Department’s Major Assaults Division is appealing to the public for any information related to the incident. Witnesses or anyone with information are encouraged to come forward. They can reach out to the Houston Police Department directly or provide information anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
