Firefighter injured battling structure fire in Somerville

SOMERVILLE, NJ – A firefighter was injured after suffering a medical emergency during a structure fire Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Somerville Fire Department Station 57/52 and EMS 54 were dispatched at about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday to 25 E. Cliff Street for a reported structure fire called in by a neighbor. Chief 57 arrived on location to find a three-story single-family private dwelling with fire conditions on the second floor and heavy smoke throughout the second and third floors.

During initial operations, a firefighter suffered a medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital where they are currently in critical but stable condition.

Due to the rapidly developing conditions, a second alarm was transmitted and held to that level alarm. The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour and turned over to the Somerville Fire Officials Office for investigation.

Somerville Borough Fire Department, Downtown Somerville Fire Department, Somerville 54 Rescue, Somerset County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), Raritan Fire Department Station 52, Finderne Fire Station 30, Bound Brook Fire Department 23, Green Knoll Fire 34, Manville Fire Company 1, Hillsborough Station 37, Lyons FMBA 95, and Somerset Fire and Rescue all responded to the fire.
