Two injured in shootout following carjacking and chase on 610 Freeway

HOUSTON, TX – A carjacking and subsequent chase ended in a shootout Friday evening, leaving two males injured on the 610 just north of Clinton Drive in east Houston.

The incident began around 6:45 p.m. with a reported carjacking in the Southeast area near Martin Luther King Boulevard. The victim tracked his stolen vehicle, which also contained his cell phone, using another vehicle. The chase concluded on the 610 Freeway when the stolen car stopped, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

One individual was grazed on the cheek, and another was shot in the lower body. Both are expected to recover. Police recovered multiple shell casings at the scene. A third vehicle believed to be tied to the car theft fled before officers arrived.

The carjacking victim later returned to the original Martin Luther King Boulevard location in a different vehicle, where police found him in possession of narcotics. Investigators are working to determine the connection between the car theft, shootout, and suspects, including whether the incident may be drug-related.
