Crane rollover near I-10 bridge leaves one seriously injured, airlifted to trauma center

COLUMBUS, TX – At approximately 3 a.m., the Columbus Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported crane rollover with entrapment in a construction zone along the westbound lanes of I-10 near the 695 mile marker.

Upon arrival, first responders found that a trackhoe and a traffic control barrier had rolled off a bridge into a nearby pond. Firefighters performed a complex water rescue, extricating the trapped individual from the water and carrying them up an embankment to a waiting EMS crew.

The patient sustained severe leg injuries and was airlifted to a Level 1 trauma center for further treatment.

The operation was described as hazardous and logistically challenging due to the water conditions and equipment involved.

Assisting agencies included Colorado County EMS and the Colorado County Sheriff’s Department.
