HOUSTON, TX – A woman was struck and killed after exiting a vehicle and stepping into active lanes of traffic along the East I-10 Freeway late Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 11:36 p.m. in the 13500 block of the outbound lanes of the East I-10 Freeway.
According to the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division, witnesses stated there was a disturbance inside the vehicle before the woman asked to get out to get fresh air. The driver pulled onto the left shoulder, where the woman exited from the rear passenger side and entered the freeway.
She was hit shortly afterward by a passing vehicle. The driver of that vehicle remained at the scene and showed signs of impairment. That driver is now being investigated for driving while intoxicated.
Police confirmed the woman was with family members at the time and was killed in front of them. Her exact age is unknown.
