Motorcycle rider killed in early morning crash with SUV near Atascocita

HUMBLE, TX – A motorcycle rider was killed in a crash involving a Jeep SUV near Atascocita early Sunday morning.

The crash occurred around 5 a.m. on July 21 in the 2600 block of Atascocita Road near Atascocita Bend Drive. According to Captain Simon Cheng with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, preliminary information indicates the driver of a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee was turning left from westbound Atascocita Road onto Atascocita Bend Drive when a Yamaha motorcycle traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed struck the SUV.

Multiple witnesses confirmed the motorcycle was speeding prior to the crash. The rider, described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s, was wearing a helmet but was ejected upon impact, striking the front windshield of the Jeep and landing in the roadway. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The adult female driver of the Jeep was the sole occupant. She was transported by ground to a hospital and is in stable condition. Airbags deployed in the SUV during the collision.

The Atascocita Fire Department also responded to the scene. The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting its investigation, and any toxicology results or further contributing factors will be determined at a later date.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicle Crimes Division is leading the investigation.
