HOUSTON, TX – An elderly man was found with a gunshot wound inside a disabled vehicle early Sunday morning as Houston police and firefighters investigated another crash downtown.
The incident began around 5:33 a.m. when Houston Fire Department and Houston Police Department units responded to a wreck on Interstate 45 near Pierce. While assisting with traffic control, an HFD unit struck an unoccupied HPD vehicle. That minor crash was moved off the freeway to the area in front of 500 Jefferson.
During the investigation, an HPD officer was also involved in a separate minor crash at the intersection of Smith and Brazos. No injuries were reported in either crash.
As officers wrapped up that scene, they went to assist a disabled vehicle at the same intersection and discovered an elderly man in the back seat with a gunshot wound.
Investigators determined the victim had been shot earlier at a cantina off Harrisburg during an altercation with another individual. He was transported by HFD to a local hospital in critical condition.
If you have any information, you are urged to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
