According to investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, a male friend called 911 after going to check on 30-year-old Yaquelin Arias Rivas, who had not shown up for work. Upon entering the apartment, he found Rivas, her 19-year-old sister Saidia Machado, and her estranged ex-boyfriend, 40-year-old Sebastian Rodriguez, all deceased.

Precinct 4 deputies and EMS responded to the scene and confirmed all three victims had died from gunshot wounds. The male witness was detained and later interviewed by homicide detectives.

Rivas’ two juvenile children, who also lived at the residence, were at school at the time of the incident.

After processing the scene, reviewing surveillance video, and conducting multiple interviews, investigators determined the case to be a murder-suicide. They believe Rodriguez shot both women before taking his own life.

Autopsies will be performed by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office to officially confirm the cause and manner of death.
