Two coyote attacks reported in Saddle River while residents walked dogs

SADDLE RIVER, NJ – Two separate coyote attacks were reported in the Chestnut Ridge Road area within a 12-hour span on September 25 and 26, 2025.

According to Saddle River Police, the first incident occurred Thursday evening near Chestnut Ridge Road and Werimus Road. A resident was attacked while walking his dog and sustained injuries that required medical treatment.

The second incident was reported Friday morning near Chestnut Ridge Road and North Church Road, where a worker was attacked under similar circumstances while walking a dog. That individual also received treatment for injuries.

Officers with the Saddle River Police Department responded to both scenes and began an investigation. TYCO Animal Control has been notified and will assist officers in the area. Conservation Officers from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife are also involved in the investigation.

Residents are urged to exercise caution when walking in the area, especially with pets or small children, and to avoid leaving them unattended outdoors.
