Two children killed, two others critically injured in Brazoria County shooting

ANGLETON, TX – The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic shooting that left two children deceased and two others injured early Saturday morning.

Deputies were dispatched around 4:48 a.m. to a report of a shooting involving multiple children. Evidence indicates that 31-year-old Oninda Romelus, the mother of the four children, was the suspected shooter.

All four children sustained gunshot wounds. A 13-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl were pronounced deceased at the scene. An 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl were flown to a Houston-area hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred inside the vehicle. Deputies arriving at the scene immediately rendered lifesaving aid to the children until medical personnel arrived. Officials stated that their swift actions likely saved at least one child’s life.

Romelus, a resident of Montgomery County, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her total bond was set at $14 million. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, under Sheriff Doolittle, assisted Brazoria County investigators with efforts in Montgomery County.

The investigation remains active as authorities continue to collect and analyze evidence.
