AMARILLO, TX – Two people were injured during a violent altercation that escalated into a shooting and stabbing incident in the early morning hours of October 12, 2025, in the 2900 block of S. Pierce Street, according to the Amarillo Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the scene around 2:21 a.m. following reports of a physical fight. Upon arrival, they located a male lying near a vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital in life-threatening condition.
Police said the incident began as an argument between two women that escalated throughout the evening. The dispute turned physical, and during a struggle over a knife, one woman bit off part of the other’s ear. The conflict then extended to the men who were with them, leading to a fight during which a gun was drawn. As the men wrestled over the weapon, it discharged, striking one of them.
Esperanza Castillo, born May 14, 1994, was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Family Violence and booked into the Randall County Jail.
Crime Scene Investigators and detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division responded. The investigation is ongoing.
