CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, CO – A man suspected in more than 30 vehicle trespasses across mountain jurisdictions died after fleeing from law enforcement and causing a fatal crash on I-70 East, according to the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect has been identified as Christopher Neil Moore, born Nov. 26, 1995. Moore was on parole from the Colorado Department of Corrections and was believed to have stolen a firearm and ammunition during the string of motor vehicle trespasses.
On October 14, 2025, deputies received multiple reports of vehicle break-ins at the Microtel Hotel in Georgetown. Investigators later learned that Moore was likely connected to at least 25 similar offenses in Summit and Eagle counties in the preceding two weeks.
Around 2 p.m., law enforcement located Moore’s vehicle near Highway 40 at Floyd Hill. As officers attempted to stop him near the intersection of Hwy 40 and Hwy 6, Moore fled, entered the I-70 eastbound off-ramp at exit 244 in the wrong direction, and drove westbound in the eastbound lanes. Law enforcement disengaged due to safety concerns, as the highway was mostly empty because of a rock scaling hold.
Moore then turned around and began traveling eastbound on I-70E at high speed. Deputies had positioned vehicles near the Hwy 6 exit and were preparing to deploy stop sticks when Moore intentionally drove toward them. He struck the stop sticks and continued east on Hwy 6.
Law enforcement resumed pursuit and, shortly after passing through Tunnel 6 near mile marker 259, Moore crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle. The impact pushed the vehicle into Clear Creek. The male driver, the sole occupant, was airlifted to a metro-area hospital in critical condition and later pronounced deceased.
Moore was pronounced deceased at the scene. A female passenger in his vehicle was transported by ambulance with injuries of unknown severity.
Colorado State Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash. Clear Creek County, along with Summit County and other agencies, is investigating the related criminal activity.
