Police seek help identifying suspect who spat on NJ Transit bus driver

NEWARK, NJ — Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with an aggravated assault involving a bus driver.

According to police, the incident occurred around 6:19 a.m. on October 12, 2025, near South 10th Street and Springfield Avenue. A male suspect who had boarded an NJ Transit bus at 21st Street in Irvington leaned around the driver’s protective barrier and spat on the female driver’s face, hair, and clothing. There was no verbal interaction between the two prior to the assault. The incident was captured by the bus’ surveillance camera.

Detectives describe the suspect as a young Black male, approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing around 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweater and black pants.
