ANCHORAGE, AK – A large police presence was deployed early Thursday morning following reports of gunfire in the 3400-block of Commercial Drive, prompting school lockdowns and a search for an armed suspect.

At approximately 7:29 a.m. on October 16, 2025, Anchorage Police responded to several calls reporting multiple rounds of gunfire in the area. One witness reported seeing an adult male suspect discharge a firearm before fleeing on foot.
Officers arrived on scene and began establishing containment. During the search, one officer was reportedly fired upon, triggering the activation of the Anchorage Police Department’s SWAT team. Officers, K9 units, and patrol teams conducted a comprehensive search of nearby homes, streets, and businesses.
Clark Middle School was secured and subsequently closed due to its proximity to the unfolding incident. Several other nearby schools were placed into “SECURE” status, where doors were locked and normal activities continued inside the building. No injuries were reported.
By 11:45 a.m., the police perimeter began to be reduced, but a significant law enforcement presence remained in the Mountain View area. Detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses. No suspect information is available at this time.
