Baytown police investigating death of man following family disturbance

BAYTOWN, TX – Baytown Police are investigating the death of a 46-year-old man who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a reported family disturbance.

Officers responded around 8:30 p.m. on October 12, 2025, to the 9900 block of Bayou Woods Drive for a disturbance involving a firearm. The suspect had left before police arrived but was later found in a nearby parking lot in the 7000 block of North State Highway 146.

When officers attempted to stop him, he refused to comply and struck a patrol vehicle. Shortly after, he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers called EMS and began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. The man was transported by Life Flight but later pronounced deceased.

After reviewing available information and video footage, investigators confirmed no officers discharged their weapons. No other injuries were reported.

Chief John Stringer commended the professionalism and composure of the responding officers, offering condolences to the man’s family during this difficult time.
