ATKINS, AR – Arkansas State Police are investigating a fatal incident following a high-speed vehicle pursuit on Interstate 40 that ended in Pope County.
Around 4 p.m. on October 22, 2025, a Trooper observed 49-year-old Andrea Thompson driving a blue Nissan Versa westbound on I-40 at a high rate of speed. According to officials, Thompson was reportedly driving recklessly, using the shoulder to pass vehicles, and nearly collided with two motorists while attempting to evade law enforcement.
The pursuit ended near the 92-mile marker when the Trooper executed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver. Thompson’s vehicle left the roadway, and she was ejected.
Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Thompson was pronounced deceased at 5:17 p.m. by the Pope County Coroner. Her body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further examination.
