Search continues for man who went missing while trying to retrieve jet ski in Muleshoe Lake

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A 34-year-old man is missing after entering the water to retrieve a jet ski in Muleshoe Lake, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies received a 911 call around 5:30 p.m. from a woman who said her male companion began struggling in the water after swimming out to recover the jet ski. Deputies say the couple had rented the jet ski earlier in the day and stopped to rest on an island along the San Jacinto River. The jet ski was not anchored and drifted away. The man, who was not wearing a life vest, entered the water in an attempt to reach it but disappeared beneath the surface.

The woman was able to call for help from her cell phone and was later found on the island using GPS. Deputies and first responders provided medical aid once she was reached.

The search has now shifted from rescue to recovery. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, along with fire departments from Highlands, Crosby, and Sheldon, are all assisting in the effort.

Officials remind boaters and riders to always wear life vests and avoid operating on the water after dark. The investigation is ongoing.
