HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured an officer near Gessner Road and Hempstead Highway.
Around 10:30 p.m., the officer was driving his personal vehicle on the way to work and was in his uniform when he became involved in an apparent road rage dispute with three suspects. One suspect got out of a vehicle and fired into the officer’s car, striking him in the shoulder. The officer returned fire and then drove himself to the HPD Northwest Station, where he received immediate medical attention before being transported to a hospital.
A Hedwig Village police officer used a license plate reader to locate the suspect vehicle in southwest Houston. HPD units, including an air unit, responded to the location. One male and two female suspects were taken into custody, and a weapon was recovered.
Police say the information is preliminary, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with video or additional information is urged to contact the Houston Police Department.
