HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian at Davis Street and Quitman Street.
The crash occurred around 8:25 p.m. in the 2300 block of Davis near the 2700 block of Quitman. Units were called to the location for a collision involving a citizen’s vehicle and a pedestrian. The driver was traveling eastbound on Quitman toward the U.S. 59 Freeway when he struck an object and then heard people on a nearby corner begin to scream.
He stopped and discovered he had run over a man lying in the roadway. A deceased male was found at the scene, and family members arrived shortly afterward.
Police believe the man had been in distress and may have attempted to commit suicide earlier in the day, which may explain why he was in the roadway.
The driver showed no signs of impairment, and investigators believe only one vehicle struck the pedestrian.
If you or someone you know is struggling, you can call or text 988 for immediate mental health support.
