Abandoned flea market fire sends firefighter to hospital

HOUSTON, TX – Firefighters with the Houston Fire Department responded to a fire at an abandoned flea market at 4821 E. Tidwell Road in the East Little York–Homestead area around 8:59 p.m. this past Sunday.

According to HFD, crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from the structure and began a defensive attack. A drone was used to assist with operations. The fire was brought under control, and one firefighter was transported to a hospital with chest pains.

HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. A total of 56 personnel responded, including crews from Stations 23, 19, 31, 45, 12, 30, 34, 58, Rescue 42, and Rehab 8.
