Deadly crime spree in Houston leaves one woman dead, suspect captured after multiple carjackings

HOUSTON, TX – According to Houston police, a deadly crime spree began around 8:29 a.m. in southeast Houston when a white SUV crashed into multiple vehicles in a four-car collision. Police said the suspect exited his SUV, fired rounds into the air, and carjacked a black SUV at gunpoint before fleeing the scene onto Interstate 45 North.

A short time later near Woodridge, the suspect carjacked a second black SUV at gunpoint. Police said it is still under investigation whether that vehicle was involved in another accident or had become disabled.

Officers issued a broadcast to locate the suspect, and Precinct 1 constables ultimately spotted him near the George R. Brown Convention Center along U.S. 59. According to police, the suspect was attempting to carjack a third vehicle, a white Dodge Ram stranded on the freeway, when a Precinct 1 constable arrived and took him into custody without further incident.

Police confirmed that a Black female was pronounced deceased in one of the vehicles involved in the initial crash. No other motorists or bystanders were injured. The suspect sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where officers remain with him.

Houston police said the investigation remains active and will be extensive due to multiple crime scenes. Vehicular Crimes Division investigators are working to reconstruct the initial crash and obtain statements from witnesses. Police expect several felony charges to be filed.
