Man shot point-blank in the head after earlier assault in northeast Houston parking lot

HOUSTON, TX – A man was critically injured after being shot point-blank in the head late Sunday evening in the 8700 block of Denton Street, according to the Houston Police Department.

Officers with Northeast Patrol responded to a shooting call around 10:20 p.m. and found the victim lying in a parking lot. The Houston Fire Department provided treatment at the scene and transported him to a local hospital, where he was listed in very critical condition. He was later moved to another hospital for a higher level of care.

Investigators say the shooting followed an earlier assault involving the same victim. Two hours prior, a group of men reportedly assaulted the victim in the same parking lot. That group left, and some of them later returned. One of the suspects, wearing a black mask, dark jacket, and blue jeans, allegedly snuck up behind the victim and shot him in the back of the head at close range.

Police said it is not yet confirmed whether the masked shooter was involved in the earlier assault. The suspect arrived and fled on foot, heading down Denton Street. No weapons were recovered, and at least 10 people were in the parking lot at the time of the shooting, all of whom fled.

The victim is described as a male in his mid-20s to early 30s. His identity has not been confirmed.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Houston Police Department’s Major Assaults Division or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
