Two killed, driver rescued by good Samaritan after fiery crash on South Loop East near Roe

HOUSTON, TX – Two people were killed and one person was rescued after a white pickup truck crashed and caught fire on the South Loop East near the Roe exit around 2:08 a.m.

The truck was reportedly leaving a residence with three occupants when the driver, traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, lost control and struck a freeway sign. The impact caused the vehicle to ignite.

A passerby was able to rescue the driver from the burning truck. The two passengers, one male and one female, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators are working to determine whether alcohol or other substances were involved in the crash. Family notifications are ongoing, and the victims’ names have not been released.

TxDOT crews are currently repairing damage to the freeway structure. The roadway will remain closed for several hours and will require additional closures later for further repairs.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area throughout the day.
