Man killed after being struck by two vehicles on U.S. 59 near Main Street exit

HOUSTON, TX – A man was killed just before midnight Monday after being struck by two vehicles on U.S. 59 near the Main Street exit, according to the Houston Police Department.

Investigators said the man was either standing or walking in the roadway when he was hit by an Infiniti SUV. The driver immediately stopped and called 911. Moments later, a second vehicle, described as a small sedan, also struck the pedestrian.

Houston Fire Department personnel arrived shortly after, but the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. He is believed to be an adult male and possibly homeless, though his identity has not yet been confirmed.

Detectives said there were no parked vehicles nearby and believe the man may have entered the freeway on foot by walking the wrong way along the Main Street exit ramp.

Both drivers remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation. At this time, impairment is not suspected, though standard evaluations are underway. The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting with identification and will determine whether any substances or medical conditions may have contributed.

This is a developing story and more information will follow if it becomes available.
